breathe in life, breathe out art

I'm a painting and printmaking major at VCU. I'll post stuff I work on in class, and on my own. As well as things I come across that inspire me as well as some good music.

A heap of photos that inspire me (picture blog):

A girl in one of my classes makes shredded shirts and sells them on etsy. Her art’s awesome from what I’ve seen of it. This is her blog.

In case you missed this picture in the newspapers a few weeks ago, here is the world’s largest reproduction of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. It was created by Katy Webster, using 82 different vinyl squares, and laid with the help of hundreds of volunteers, including local schoolchildren.

revamped

So I presented my idea for the performance project to my class and it got a reaction I totally was not expecting. I had meant for it to be light hearted and jaunty but it seems to be a heavier subject than I was expecting. On top of that some people just thought the idea wasn’t cohesive enough and needed to be a little more simple and strait forward. So now the performance is going to just be me getting people to draw for me and the sweetness of that.

I’m working on my final project for my performance class. I’m working with the whole “everyone is an artist” quote. Personally I don’t really like that quote, but it’s hard to deny it is pretty appropriate for the art world nowadays. I’m going up to people and asking them to draw me pictures (not telling them it’s for a project, but just for me). Hoping to get people to do something sweet for someone they don’t know. Then I want to get into a gallery with the sketchbooks of drawings I fill and hold an open discussion with viewers. The fact that these non artist doodles are in a gallery will probably change the way people would normally view them, and actually view them as art.

These pictures are some of what I have so far
